I loved listing to this, just living vicariously through Robin's fresh perspective, since I've watched it since like, the third episode.

Kripke has said that he could finish his five-year plan and start a new story. "That's what we're preparing for, and well just see how the season goes.

Trickster's back next week, lol. I'm quite looking forward to it though, Sam'n'Dean get stuck in the tv shows SPN competes against. Come on, that's gonna be good!

My theory with Bela is that they'll have her return as a demon, which even though I didn't like her, I wouldn't mind.

I honestly don't think I liked Cas (er, sorry, habit) 'til "The Monster at the End of This Book," when Cas showed that he could be Dean's sneaky little helper. "Just so you understand... why I can't help." Hee. I think I resented him a bit, cause I saw the angel thing coming from a mile away, and was disappointed SPN would do something (I thought was) so predictable. But they've certainly done a good job with it. I love him now, that's for sure.

Thanks for summing up "Heaven and Hell" for me, btw. Right now I'm rewatching s4, and that was the single worst episode ever, so I didn't really want to watch it again. (Jensen Ackles crying scene is just the most heartwrenching thing ever, though--it deserved better than that episode, lol)

Listening to you and Kelly talk about Betty and want to chime in. Y'all talked about how she has everything but doesn't appreciate it. That's the point. Betty has all the trappings that a woman of that era aspired to, but it's not fulfilling for her. The 60s are a time of change when women and what they should want was changing. Betty is one type of 60s woman; the divorced neighbor was another; Don's boho mistress was another; Rachel the dept. store owner, another. Same with Joan and Peggy. The show makes each of these characters pretty black and white so that the contrasts stand out. So Betty has yet to evolve with more modern thinking, but mainly so that she remains a foil for the other women Don gets attracted to.

Back to more Betty specifics. As you said, this is the era when adults didn't define their self-worth by their childrens' accomplishments, therefore Betty gets no satisfaction or pride in having the children or anything they achieve. That new teacher (and I haven't seen last night's) and her progressive ideas about Sally's feeling when Grandpa Gene died stand in contrast to both Betty and Don.

I also really have to disagree about Don's treatment of Betty. Don views Betty as an accessory to his life, not a whole person. He treats her interest the same way he treats Bobby and Sally's. He'll pay attention for a few minutes, but he doesn't take it anywhere close to seriously. When he writes on her phone list this demonstrates it. His business is real; hers is just play. He also fails to treat her anywhere close to a partner or intellectual equal. The way he lectured her about his contract is evidence of that. And don't forget he's lied to her their entire relationship about who he actually is. His name is Dick, not Don, and his wife with whom he's had 3 children has no idea.

Now none of this is to say that I think Betty is a person I'd want to be friends with or like. But that's the thing about Mad Men. Like the characters in LOST, everyone on Mad Men is to great extent unlikable in the cold harsh light of day. And while I'd never want to be married to Don Draper, I still can't help but like him. And while I'd never want to be Betty Draper, I sure can't help wishing I looked like her and spoke Italian like her.

BTW, Alan Sepinwall and Mo Ryan both always have great blog posts after the episodes with tons of the little details that make Mad Men great. Check 'em out if you aren't already.

I couldn't find anyone interested in doing an all Firefly show. Maybe I've got it all out of my system.

I'm about halfway through. Im really enjoying it.

I totally agree w/ u on Dollhouse, but I havent given up on it yet. Joss is good at writing great characters, so WHY is the premise of that show is that their characters change every week. (Plus Eliza is not that good an actress) I wish Amy Acker's character was the lead, or the girl from Wonderfalls was cast as Echo instead. and ELiza is a producer on the show, so theres no hope in her gettin killed off. It may only last 2 seasons anyway, since ppl see it as like another show like Tru Calling. (and freakin Topher is the most annoying character on tv)

Ice Storm is number 1 on my list. Do u flickchart? http://www.flickchart.com/nine25

Also agree on True Blood. I like the show but Im not really as addicted to it as others seem to be. Its like another Alan Ball show 6 feet under. Its very good but becomes too reliant on being premium channels, so they would put shockvalue things like scenes where people would have sex, do drugs, and curse alot, in almost every ep. just because they can. And when they used to show 6 Feet reruns on bravo, but heavily edited w/ all that cut, the older ones would be very good, but the later ones had so much cut out, it exposed the show as kind of weak writing.

Do u think u'd do a show just on Firefly? I'd really enjoy that

I'll comment again when I finish the show

thanks

Just wanted to say that I really enjoyed your Buffy episodes. Great fun to listen to and reminded me of why I enjoyed the series so very much. Poor Chris. He's going to be forced to watch more of it sooner than he imagines. Or is it time to dust Angel off again?...

Hey, Steph - regarding your concern that you can come across as judgmental? You generally come across as a woman of clear, strong opinions, and that is not the same thing *at all*.

That said, I started to worry that you'd gone wrong a few 'casts ago when every mention of a new episode of Buffy season 7 provoked an 'I hated this episode' from you - that *was*starting to sound judgmental. Or possibly just mental, because it's an excellent season. :)
